Project Controls: Canal & River Trust partnering with Kier Infrastructure

Client need

Kier Infrastructure was appointed to the Canal & River Trust National Engineering & Construction Contract (NECC) framework . The framework was for Kier to deliver over 100 major construction and 200 minor construction projects.

Kier’s Senior Commercial Manager required Project Control Services to monitor the contract and commercial performance of Kier’s commercial team delivering projects on the NECC. The objective was to give Kier’s Senior Commercial Manager control, insight, visibility, and performance information to inform decision making.

Maximising visibility, control and decision making

CappKind solution

CappKind’s project controls team delivered the following services:

  • Worked with Kier’s Senior Commercial Manager to identify the best sources of data.
  • Created automated data transformation to collate the different data sources using Power Query.
  • Identified and analysed the forecasting data and the outputs that were required.
  • Enhanced and improved existing forecasting data in collaboration with Kier.
  • Created dashboard reports for forecasts, compensation events and programmes.
  • Incorporated multi filter/slicer functionality, automating charts, tables and graphs.
  • Monthly analysis and review with the client’s Quantity Surveyors who working on individual projects to obtain insights, explanations and actions from the outputs of the analysis.
  • Provide Kier with dashboard and insight reports to give control and visibility of the programme.

The Kier Senior Commercial Manager wanted to focus on project controls specifically in three main areas, namely forecasts, compensation events and programme.
