CappKind supports daa Capital Investment Programme strategic adoption of NEC4

Client need

Dublin Airport Authority (daa) is an airport and travel retail group with businesses established globally. As part of its ~€1bn Capital Investment Programme strategy, it adopted the use of the New Engineering Contract (fourth edition) (NEC4) suite.

With limited knowledge and experience of NEC4, daa commissioned CappKind’s NEC4 expertise to support, advise upon and develop documentation for the procurement of various frameworks and contracts for the daa Capital Investment Programme.

CappKind solution

CappKind provided contract and procurement support and advice to the daa Capital Investment Programme, with particular emphasis on the adoption and use of various NEC4 contract forms. Our responsibilities included:

  • Reviewing the client’s existing contract and procurement templates:
    • Providing recommendations and draft content to align with NEC4.
  • Reviewing Scope documentation:
    • Creating schedules of observations and corrections required,
    • Tracked change and redrafting of documents to align them to NEC4.
  • Drafting tender and contract documentation including:
    • Request for Information,
    • Request for Tender,
    • Contract Data, Scope and Site Information,
    • Bespoke additional conditions of contract.
  • Developing client branded templates for use on specific contracts and for use on future projects including:
    • Framework Contract Data, Scope, Commercial Information,
    • ECC Contract Data, Scope and Site Information,
    • Supply Short Contract and Batch Order.
  • Advising the client on the form of contract, secondary options and amendments, including additions to the standard conditions of contract specific to the project being procured.
Lasting legacy for future procurement

The impact

CappKind initially provided support to the daa Capital Investment Programme for a four-month period. Following successful provision of reviews, advice and drafting of documentation, the commission was extended and expanded to provide the services outlined above.

Following the relatively new adoption of NEC4 by the client, CappKind provided the client with an increased understanding and capability in relation to NEC4 contracts and procurement of the same.

By providing client branded contract and procurement templates, CappKind has left a legacy for the client for future procurement activities.

Following the high satisfaction of the client in providing the above, CappKind was requested to manage, support, advise and draft content for the procurement of the Cork Airport Runway Rehabilitation Programme.
